Conflict between Turkish authorities and militant fighters of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party(PKK), who are calling for an independent Kurdish state, has lasted decades and cost more than 30,000 lives. More than half the world’s Kurds(10 to 12 million people) live in the south eastern part of Turkey, near the border with Iraq. Turkey, together with the USA and the European Union, has designated the PKK a terrorist organization. In 2007, Turkey accused the PKK of launching attacks from bases in the semi-autonomous Kurdish region of northern Iraq, and threatened cross-border retaliatory strikes.

Treat the earth well.
It was not given to you by your parents.
It was loaned to you by your children.
